Don 't we all want to help our family but how far will someone go for it. In A Rasin in the Sun Walter is one of four main characters and his story focuses on how he wants to escape the shackles from his current life.
This is shown by Walter trying to buy a liquor store, his constant pleas at Mama for the money but his family disagreeing with how the money should be used.
Walters has a goal for his motivation and that is to buy a liquor store.
Walter is talking to Ruth about what he has been thinking about and then he explains "You see, this little liquor store we got in mind cost seventy-five thousand and we figured the initial investment on the place be 'bout thirty thousand, see" (556). Walter wants to buy a liquor store with his friends. This is aligned with Walters motivation to helps his family because in his mind can only he jumpstarted by buying the liquor store to help them all up. This is not the only time Walter tries to buy a liquor store. Walters friend bobo has entered the house and seems nervous then he explains "This deal that me and Walter went into with Willy Me and Willy was going to go

just waiting for me a big, looming blank space full of nothing just waiting for me. But it don’t have to be" (577). Walter believes that with where he is currently at that his future is blank but he sees a potential that can only be achieved by using the money.
The reason why Walter is upset is because he is overall upset about his family and him and thinks that with a sliver of hope he can help.
For Walter to reach his motivation he wants to but a liquor store but to reach that he argues with is family which leads him to plead to Mama. Walters objective is to purchase a liquor store. With the money the goal is very realistic for Walter but because of his unawareness to everything around he loses it. This teaches that people can have a big dream in reach but always keep track of yourself and
