Although Perry is responsible for the murder of four innocent people, Perry’s actions do not reflect on who he is as a person because he is easily influenced, therefore; showing how easily people can be pressured into doing something they would not typically do. Dick, a violent, cold-hearted, manipulator, has molded Perry into the person he is today. As Perry is a follower, Dick has taken advantage of that by turning Perry into the cold-blooded killer he is today. Capote displays Dick’s manipulation of Perry through symbolism to make evident that while Perry did pull the trigger on four innocent people, although the fault does not entirely lay on him, as he was taken advantage of by Dick.
He ended up in a series of orphanages where he was severely beat and traumatized for wetting the bed. One nun at the orphanage would “ fill a tub with ice cold water, put me in it, and hold me under until I was blue.” Capote intends to provoke the audience's sympathy for Perry by including his terrible childhood experiences to explain his violent manner as well as provide reasoning to commit the crime he did. Perry has many examples of how his brutal life experiences cause his violent behavior. Perry has many sociopathic characteristics including, lack of moral responsibility or social conscience, erratic behavior, rage and anger, ability form a particular relationship to one person, crimes are usually spontaneous.

But also different from Johnny, he didn’t have any other support, not even the gang, as they met after he turned into a young adult. Also, different from both Johnny and Pony, he didn’t want to save the children in the burning church, as he said to both boys when they were heading in the church: "Get back in here before I beat your head in." That shows that he didn’t care about the children, and that he is cold hearted. But on the other hand, that shows that he does care about other people, because he didn’t want Johnny and Pony to get hurt. Another example is when he said the following to himself after Johnny died: “...that's what you get for tryin' to help people, you little punk, that's what you get..."
“You give me a uniform, you give me a number on my back, I'll give you the guts.” Throughout the 2013 film “42”, Jackie Robinson indeed proves that he has the guts to counter racism in people from all walks of life. Character is the aspect of a person that decides what kind of person he is; it is who he is at his very core, and it affects his tolerance, courage, and sense of justice. Jackie’s dealing with the racism conveys true character, and it teaches the viewer how to behave when put to the test. Specifically, “42” exemplifies true character education in that it depicts Jackie Robinson persisting despite the racial prejudice of spectators, the media, and fellow athletes.
In John Landis’ 1980 film The Blues Brothers, “Joliet” Jake and Elwood Blues try to track down their old band members to remake The Blues Brother so they can raise enough money to save the orphanage where they grew up. After serving a prison sentence he received by robbing a store to pay for the band’s expenses, Jake meets with his brother, Elwood, who takes Jake to meet with the Penguin, the nun who raised the orphaned brothers at Saint Helene of the Blessed Shroud Orphanage. The Penguin tells the two that if they want to help pay for the orphanage bills, they need to collect $5,000 in a week, and they need to do so lawfully. Jake then decides that to accomplish this task, the brothers should bring their old band back together to play several shows and raise the money. The Blues Brothers travel all over Illinois to find their band members while police officers, Illinois Neo-Nazis, country singers, and a murderous ex-girlfriend try to find and kill them.
The purpose of my essay is to explore how different social backgrounds and the social norms that follow affect the personality of two fictive characters and encourage them to break out of their station to find an identity. The protagonists Holden Caulfield in J.D. Salinger’s novel The Catcher in the Rye and Tambudzai in Tsitsi Dangarembga’s novel Nervous Conditions are both victims of social norms.
