Have you ever wondered what struggles adults have had as a child? What experiences have shaped them to become who they are? These struggles can range from traumatic experiences to moral experiences. A traumatic experience can range from someone dying to getting bullied daily in school. These struggles will shape a person which will shape them when they are older. About 50% of adolescents have had a mental health disorder at some point in their lives according to OASH. These experiences with their mental health disorders can cause them to act differently when they become an adult. Teenage struggles can positively and negatively affect who we are. Ryan started on the varsity rugby team when he was 15. He loves to play rugby and is very good at it. He met many new friends like Joey, Chas, Jp, and Seanie. Seanie and Jp are his best friends. He always hangs out with them when he can and he feels welcomed in them. This experience can cause him to be more outgoing and friendly when he is older so he can make friends faster. Being able to make friends is important because you will need people to rely on to help you through struggles that you may have later in life. Winger also shows a negative experience with him. Ryan loses a friend because teens were drinking and were not doing the right thing. This experience caused him to be depressed and want answers of why it happened. Since he died Ryan has not been the same. He isn't as friendly as he used to be and gets annoyed very easily. Ryan's new roommate also causes him to think negatively. His roommate was like him his freshman year but he is a lot more childish. Ryan does not like the things that his new roommate, Sam, is doing. Almost everything that Sam does makes him mad.These experiences with Sam led him to hating him. Later in the book he realizes that Sam isn't as bad as he thought he was but he was just trying to help Ryan out most of the time. Joey changed Ryan a lot causing him to be a kind person. Joey's death made him depressed. This also happens in real life too. People who lose a loved one become stricken with grief and turn to ways to cope with it. They may drink, smoke or use drugs.
