One time I was clever was when I was able to talk my way out of doing chores. However my cleverness is not as exciting as Tyler’s or the IRA sniper’s cleverness. Tyler and the IRA sniper both show cleverness, Through being able to read a situation and being able to make quick decisions. Tyler is clever because he is able to read situations well. “You’re totaled. S$%t faced, no offence. You know I really like you and want to be with you, but not like this.”(Page 126 author: Anderson). In this story Tyler goes to a party with a girl named Bethany. Tyler arrives late to the party and realizes everyone is drunk so he decides not to drink in order to watch his friends. Bethany however starts coming onto Tyler but he doesn’t want to do that because she is not in her right mind. “Adams turned to me ”You were at the party, right Tyler?” I nodded “and by that you mean yes?” “yes sir” ” (Page 145 Author: Anderson). “Almost immediately there was a report and a bullet pierced the center of the cap”(Page 3 O'Flaherty). This story takes place in ireland during the civil war. The story follows a young IRA sniper. During one part of the story the sniper is pinned down and is wounded and is forced to think of a plan to kill his enemy, so he takes off his hat and sticks it on the barrel of his rifle and puts the hat out of cover. When the enemy shoots the hat there are tricked into thinking they killed the IRA sniper. “ She was pointing to the roof where the sniper lay. An informer”. This evidence shows that the sniper was clever enough to realize that the old lady was an informant. Once he found out he had to make a plan to take her and the armored car that was nearby.
