CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT Siddhartha is an impatient youngster in the beginning who is seeking the knowledge of how to attain moksha. His determination, resolve, and stubbornness is captured when he stands in the moonlight, at the same spot, without sleeping, waiting for his father’s approval to join the Samanas. Throughout the book till he is guided by Vasudeva and he attains moksha, he has always had a lingering after taste of dissatisfaction. By the way, Siddhartha wrote the book, you can establish that he has a bit of arrogance. I think that Kamala cared for him, but her feelings were painful, because she knew that Siddhartha would always be a little distant. She also knew that Siddhartha was a wanderer by nature, so she had the affair with the knowledge that he will leave one day. Siddhartha’s son is a rich, spoilt brat who takes on a very rebellious attitude after his mother’s death. He eventually ends up running away from home. He is very anxious man who gets irked when the business doesn’t go his way. He gets very annoyed because Siddhartha’s heart never was in business. He thought of business as a game that he played with much indifference. TONE The tone is reflective and questioning.
