Aswang can be traced back to the 15th to the 16th centuries, Aswang was depicted as “a native superstition” from the view point of Spanish missionaries, trying to propagate their Catholic beliefs, or as “a demon” standing against their God (Plasencia 1903-09; Ortiz 1903-09).
