Departmentalization
Another fundamental characteristic of organization structure is departmentalization, which is the basis for grouping position into departments and departments into the total organization. Managers make choices about how to use the chain of command to group people together to perform their work. There are five approaches to structural design that reflect different uses of the chain of command in departmentalization. The functional, divisional, and matrix are traditional approaches that rely on the chain of command to define departmental groupings and reporting relationships along the hierarchy. We are producing only one product. Our management decided that to successes our purpose we have to change our organization structure to do it efficiency and easily. So our management interested in departmentalization of our business.
There are five form of departmentalization from that vertical functional approach is the most suitable one for our business. The major departments under the president are groupings of similar experience and recourses, such as finance accounting, human resources, maintenance, research and development, production, and marketing, each of functional departments is concerned with the organization as a whole. The marketing department is responsible for all sales and marketing, production department only consider about quality of the products.
In our business which relies on in-depth experience in its various functional departments to produce high quality ice cream for a limited regional market. The quality control department test all incoming ingredients and ensure that only the best go into igloo ice cream. Quality inspectors also test outgoing products and, because of our year’s experience, can detect the slightest deviation from expected
