Reading the comic strip “True Tales of the Amerikkkan History Part II: The True Thanksgiving” artist Jim Mahfood, examines different views on ethnicity, specifically the differences between American Indians and Whites, through the views of a naïve and native youngster. Mahfood, utilizes a classic nine panel format with “True Tales of the Amerikkkan History Part II: The True Thanksgiving”, which traces the youths discussion about Thanksgiving. This discussion between the white kid and the Native American kid, shows the vast differences between both youths perception of the traditional American holiday. Mahfood’s portrayal of the white kid, as a self-absorbed follower of society and as direct reflection of his apparently, uncompassionate

Over the course of reading these pieces I would like to go more in depth about three pieces including The Yellow Wallpaper, Three Thanksgivings, and The Cottagette. All of these writings were about Gilman’s own life experiences through the nineteenth century that she endeavored. Charlotte Perkins Gilman was a talented writer, self-educated social scientist and lecturer, an activist for women’s rights who herself experienced the consequences of oppressive male attitudes and treatment of females. One of the greatest weeks of my life was back in 2003, when my family went on vacation to Hawaii. We went because the previous year, my sister, Andrea, and I became certified divers, so this was our reward from our parents, who loved diving. My sister and I were only fourteen at the time. We had always heard that some of the greatest dive sites and clearest water in the world were in Hawaii and were extremely excited to experience it for ourselves. Our routine that week was: get up first thing in the morning to go diving
“The story of an hour” by Kate Chopin and “Hills like white elephants’’ by Ernest Hemingway are two wonderful short stories that talks about two women dealing with major moments of change. Though both stories seem different from each other but after reading the story more in depth, I realized that both women are dealing differently with a situation beyond their control. Ernest Hemingway style of writing is confusing In a sense that I had to reread “Hills like white elephants” four times to fully understand the story. He only gives his readers bare facts. He doesn’t say or clarifies his sentence leaving little clues for his readers to figure out the rest.

The narrator appears to have a positive and loving attitude for her mother; she has a lot of respect and pride for her and wants to stand up for what her mother rightfully deserves. I think this was very unique; she uses irony repeatedly in her essay. It keeps you interested throughout the essay and even after I finished. I wondered what her response was to the person at the Social Security Office after they said, "Well you see-your mother never worked." Even though she didn't express her feelings about not getting any benefits from her mother's death, I can tell that she was upset and shocked that the government overlooked the work, her mother did daily.
