In To Kill a Mockingbird, Boo Radley and Tom Robinson are both symbolized as the mockingbird. The first person who was inferred as a mockingbird was Boo Radley. Boo Radley is recognized as one of the mockingbirds of the story because he has not done anything horrible. Scout talks to Miss Maudie about the rumors she has heard about Boo and Miss Maudie says that he has not done any of those rumors. The only other person who claims she has seen Boo doing something bad was Miss Stephanie who has a very big mouth.
Boo sees Scout and Jem as his children. Boo has watched the kids grow up over the years. He's sorta laid back and comes in with his “children” need him. At the beginning of the book Boo has already been characterized as someone he's not. More towards the middle he starts to show up more but still is out of everyone's way.
In the novel To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee the term mockingbird symbolizes innocence in a person. In the novel it focuses on the fact that innocence, represented by the mockingbird, can be wrongfully harmed. There are two characters: Tom Robinson and Arthur “Boo” Radley that are supposed to represent the mockingbird. In the novel, Tom Robinson is the best example of a mockingbird because he is prosecuted for a crime he did not commit. Also, he was judged unfairly based on the color of his skin in his trial.
Boo's true nature is different from what Scout has expected. The story reads, "I led him to the front porch, where his uneasy steps halted. He was still holding my hand and was showing no signs of letting go" (Lee 278). Scout realizes that Boo is not like the rumors she has heard. He was an anxious man who did not like social interaction, but Boo was a gentle giant.
Lastly is when the children were attacked, Boo protected them. These are all examples of how Boo helped the kids. Towards the end of the novel, after the kids realize all the nice things Boo has been doing for them, they start to change their opinions. They realize he is not a crazy man, he is just a person. A person that has helped them.
This explains how Boo had to get out of his comfort zone of staying in his house to do the heroic service of protecting Scout and Jem, risking the unveiling of his shy ways to the Maycomb community. After both children are safe and Atticus thanks Boo for his children, Scout takes him by the hand and leads him back to his house. As he releases Scout’s hand and shuts the door, never to be seen again, Scout describes him, stating that “He gave us two soap dolls, a broken watch and chain, a pair of good luck pennies, and our lives.”. (320) This illustrates how Boo Radley had acted as a guardian angel for the children; socializing with them but also defending them when necessary. The nicest thing he did for the children was save them from Bob Ewell. When Mr. Ewell had intentions to kill the children, Boo realized this. Instead of staying inside like he normally does, Boo left his house to save Jem and Scout’s lives. Another good act Boo did was to spend some time with Scout. When Scout first met him, she got a little nervous from seeing Boo her the first time.
The townspeople thought Boo was an evil man who caused trouble around the neighborhood because of his past experiences as a child. Boo opens up to Jem and Scout throughout the novel and they see he is really a lonely, caring man in need of a friend. Boo was known as the towns troublemaker and had a bad reputation, many people were scared of him. " Inside the house lived a malevolent phantom people said he existed, but Jem and I had never seen him. People say he went out at night when the moon was down, and peeped and windows.
Boo notices and enjoys watching the children play throughout the neighborhood, and he is probably aware of their curious nature. Boo simply wants to be friends with Jem and Scout, and his gifts are a token of his friendship.” (Author Unknown). The article shows that Boo just wants friends with Jem and Scout and is truly a kind person. “Jem said Boo was six and a half feet tall, ate squirrels and cats, his teeth were yellow, and he drooled most of the time.”
However, Scout believes that they were left in the tree for them specifically. As Scout meets Boo in the flesh after what he does to save her from Mr. Ewell, she begins to see Boo by his heroic actions rather than the rumors. Boo finally has a friend who sees him as something other than a

Many of the townsfolk viewed him as an evil or mean spirited person. An instance of him being a mockingbird is first seen when Boo begins to put things in the hole of a tree for Jem and Scout to have until it gets filled with cement (44-45). Another example is when Boo puts a blanket around Scout while she is watching the fire at Miss Maudie's house and Scout does not even notice (94-95). These mocking birds are: Arthur “boo” Radley, Tom Robinson, and Atticus finch. Arthur “boo” Radley was an intelligent boy who does good deeds everywhere he went, he was polite, smart and good. But then when he was around 15 years old, he was acquainted with the Cunninghams from the north, they were like savaged animals doing things on impulse. This became an influence to Arthur, until one day they were resisting arrest from the police in the fountain square, after they were finally arrested they were brought to court which the judge sentenced them to industrial school. Industrial school wasn’t jail or shame, but for mr. Radley it was shame.
