Charles B. Dew argued in his book “Southern Secession Commissioners and the Cause of the Civil War” that the south seceded to protect the slaves. He also stated the north had larger military forces compared to the south. That southerners fought because of their pride and that is why the war lasted for four years (322). Mississippi, Alabama, South Carolina, Georgia, and Louisiana wanting to get out of the Union and become one of their own. The lower southern states persuaded many other slave state to secede from the Union as well.
Alvin Cullum York was one of the most decorated soldiers of the First World War. He was a recipient of the Medal of Honor and the French Legion of Honor (content). Alvin York was born in the hills of the Cumberland Plateau of Tennessee on December 13, 1887. He was the third born of 11 children and was the son of William Uriah York and Mary Elizabeth York. When Alvin was young he only attended school up to the third grade however, he earned a reputation to be quite the sharpshooter which is how he helped feed his family by supplying turkey that he had killed.

He was a father, a husband, a son, a brother, a pet owner, a nurse in New Jersey and an American serial killer. He would never get the chance though, as he was immediately ensnared in a conflict between his secretary of state, James G. Blaine, and Blaine's Stalwart nemesis, Senator Roscoe Conkling. In the midst of these arguments, an unhappy and mentally ill man named Charles J. Guiteau, who was also a Stalwart, shot President James Garfield in the back at a railroad station in Washington.
Billy, however, was not as fortunate. He spent months struggling for a living until he finally yielded. Exhausted and defeated, William H. Bonney addressed a letter to Governor Wallace in hopes of pardoning his charges. However, once he attended his hearing at the courthouse, the Governor left him in the hands of men who wanted him hung. He had no chance of altering their minds, so, he did what he knew best, and he ran.
In 1856, after his state's Democratic Party had part into groups over the issue of subjection and denial, Hamlin was charmed by the Republican Party to keep running for the governorship of Maine. Hamlin exchanged gatherings and won the decision, however just filled in as representative for somewhat more than a month prior to leaving the position in mid 1857, wanting to come back to his Senate situate.
Benjamin Banneker was a huge self educated mathematician, astronomer, complier of almanacs and also a writer all at the same time. Benjamin Banneker was born on November 9, 1731, in Ellicott’s, Maryland. A free black man who owned his own property with a farm close to Baltimore, Banneker was very self educated in astronomy an mathematics. He was later called to help in the surveying of territory for the construction of the nations capital. Benjamin Banneker also became an active writer of almanacs and exchanged letters with Thomas Jefferson, politely challenging him to do to ensure racial equality.
Grover Cleveland’s uncle lived in Buffalo and helped Grover get a job as a helper in a law office. Grover learned so much while helping in the law office that he decided to go take the law exam (In the 1800s you didn’t need to go to college to take the law exam). He passed! In 1870, Grover was elected Erie County sheriff. After his service with sheriff he decided to go back to being a lawyer.
The school system was not always the way it is now. It was not schools that were mixed with every race under one building sitting next to each other getting the same education. In 1954 the Supreme Court ruled that it was unconstitutional for schools to be segregated, in the case of Brown v Board of Education. This paper will argue that the Little Rock nine played a pivotal moment in history by leading to desegregation and bringing into light the social injustices during that time for African American students. Charles Edmund Cullen, also known as the “Angel of Death” or “Killer Nurse”, was sentenced to eleven consecutive life terms on March 1, 2006 after confessing to murdering patients with poison and non prescribed medications at hospitals throughout New Jersey and Pennsylvania during his sixteen year course working as a nurse. The “Angel of Death” is still incarcerated today at Trenton State Prison and will be there for the rest of his life. From 1988-2002, Charles Cullen murdered at least forty elderly patients because he believed that he was doing them a favor and relieving the patients from suffering like an angel would do. Leche resigned. He served the rest of Leche’s term until it ended in 1940. Earl Long became the 45th governor in 1948 and served until 1952. George Wallace was the 45th governor of Alabama. He too believed that blacks should be treated equally. When the officers were arresting people, they arrested Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. He was one of the people who led the marchers from Selma to Montgomery.
Wes Montgomery is an American jazz guitarist, who was born on March 6th 1923. During his career he was extremely influential throughout the jazz community. Unlike many musicians, Montgomery started playing music at the late age of 19. He had no formal training, having to teach himself the craft of guitar.
