“Pretty Boy” Floyd, who was he and what were his crimes. Pretty Boy was one of the famous gangsters in the great depression. He committed various crimes. Charles Arthur Floyd was born on February 3rd, 1904. He was born in Adairsville, Georgia to poor farmers during The Great Depression where nobody had money. His mother and father were completely broke. During his early childhood he was raised in complete poverty which drew him to crime more specifically theft from a young age. He was one of many children his mother had. He was raised while The Great Depression was in full effect. He didn’t go to school because his parents couldn’t afford to send him. This robbery landed Floyd four years in prison. There is no information on how we did it but there’s a lot of speculation on how he did it. The first robbery he did set off a crime spree from Arthur Floyd mainly robbing many banks in Ohio and he was even accused of murder, but he wasn’t found guilty. We don’t know what banks he robbed because he robbed so many they couldn’t be named. By the end of his crime spree, he robbed about three hundred banks. During his robberies people thought he was destroying mortgage papers which would remove their dept. Because of his legacy of robbing banks and these theories of why he’s doing these crimes he was named “Robin Hood of Crookston Hills. People thought of him a hero for this. He was accused and found guilty of taking part in the Kansas City Massacre. The Kansas City Massacre was an attempt by “pretty boy” Floyd to free a prisoner that ended in a gun fight. This happen to be during the time he was a gangster. He tried to break a prisoner who was named Nash out of prison. Floyd and his friend Richetti and their girlfriends were speeding through Ohio when Floyd lost control of their car causing them to hit a tree. After they crashed, they hid in bushes while their girlfriends got the car repaired. The weapons he preferred was the machine gun and he often used them, but their ammo was expensive as you would use a lot at a time. His second favorite weapon was the .45 cal pistol he would use these when using a machine gun wasn’t ideal or wasn’t the best plan. He has never used or shot a rifle. During his robberies he would use machine guns which he would fire sporadically. Today if he did this he would be caught and imprisoned for his crimes instantly. The reason he didn’t get caught sooner is because he would shoot and kill officers trying to arrest him. This would make him more and more wanted. He started his robbery spree because he was poor, but then he enjoyed it so robbed when he was bored. He became a gangster because during some robberies he accidentally killed someone. This is his motive for his crimes that heavily impacted
