Charles Cullen’s was a nurse at the Somerset Medical Center and arrested for murdering over forty patients. Cullen was aware of his action and while being questioned by detective Timothy Bruan, he stated “[I am] a man, person, who was trusted and had responsibility for a lot of people dying...I hate myself for it 'cause I don't believe I had the right, but I couldn't stop, I couldn't.” Cullen could not stop his despicable acts and although the hospital knew of his psychiatric holdings, that did not stop Cullen from treating patients. After being questioned, Cullen admitted to the committing murder and attempted murder during the sixteen years he worked as a nurse in the hospital. Cullen displayed evidence of mental instability, but the hospital continued to look past his suspicious behaviors. There was incidents were Cullen completed a shift while wearing a surgical gown, mask, and gloves which he had taken from a medical closet. The hospital transferred him to a different department but Cullen tried to commit suicide several times during the next few years and eventually was medically discharged. …show more content…

Barnabas Hospital by administering a lethal overdose of intravenous medication to these patients. Cullen resigned from his position at St. Barnabas Hospital when the hospital authorities began to investigate the tampered bags of intravenous fluid. He received a job at Warren Hospital where he admitted to killing three elderly ladies by giving those overdoses of digoxin. Over the course of the years, Cullen’s worded at an abundance of hospitals where he was responsible for murdering patience by given them unscheduled injections. Cullen was able to easily get another nursing position because there was a nursing shortage and there were no reporting mechanisms for hospital workers with mental health issues.
