When dealing with the concept of evolution, Charles Darwin is the main figure mentioned because he was the first to discover that evolution happened by means of natural selection. However, there were ideas concerning evolution years before Darwin’s time. Early evolutionary thought came from influences such as Greek Thought, Rise of Christianity, The Renaissance, Natural Philosophers, and Biological Research and Writings. Darwin wasn’t the first person curious about the origin of the world, but he was the most accurate. Greek Thought included the philosophies of Anaximander, Xenophanes, Empedocles, and Aristotle.
Kevin Grace WOH 1030 Charles Darwin: The Man, The Myth, The Legend The lines of history textbooks are filled with thousands of names of people who have influenced the world in fantastic ways. Some of these names, many people have never heard, while others are household names such as Thomas Edison or Benjamin Franklin. This man is Charles Darwin.
Seth Justus English 2 Mr. Johnson Project Eagle Paper on Charles Darwin Thesis Statement: Charles Darwin shaped evolutionary Biology into the way we see it today with his writings on how genetic variations of species between generations, how climate and many other things can cause variations between species, and just his idea of survival of the fittest in The Origin of Species. Primary Source: The Origin of Species The Origin of Species by Charles Darwin, published on November 24th 1859 is considered to be the foundation to evolutionary biology. The Origin of Species introduces the scientific theory that populations of species evolve over long periods of time through the process of Natural Selection.
Basic Theory of Darwin Charles Darwin was known as an English naturalist who studied variation of animals and plants during a five-year voyage around the world in the nineteenth century. Evolutionary ideas came to prominence, when Charles Darwin explained his ideas on evolution in a book called, On the Origin of Species, published in 1859 (1). Darwin's ideas caused a lot of controversy, and this continues today, because they can be seen as conflicting with religious views about the creation of the world and the creatures in it. The basic idea behind the theory of evolution is that all the different species have evolved from simple life forms.
Each development in scientific comprehension encounters some resistance. Charles Darwin was extremely apprehensive to announce his findings, because he knew he would get censured by the world. Particularly the religious world. His theory of Evolution has managed to provoke those involved in the church and those who are not. The reality is Darwin did not intend to provoke anyone or their faith.
Charles Darwin was expected to go to Edinburgh University in order to become a medical doctor but couldn't take in the brutality of surgery, soon, losing interest after two years of study. Clearly, he was interested in biology and geology. By 1831, he had the opportunity to abroad the survey ship H.M.S Beagle, spending 18 months at sea. After a 5 week long visit in the Galapago Islands, Darwin had made the observation to comprehend what causes plants and animals to evolve. His observation was that species were found in the Galapago Islands in no other part in the world but similar ones on the west coast of South America.
