Charles Dickens Around the time that Charles Dickens was writing, there were many writers. The reason that Charles Dickens’ work is much more prevalent was because of the way he wrote and published his works. He published his works chapter by chapter in the newspaper. Charles Dickens was born on February 7, 1812, to a poor family. Dickens had eight siblings. His father, John Dickens, and his mother, Elizabeth Dickens, owed money for debts. Charles, his sister Franny, and his father were the only people who worked. His other siblings were too young, and his mother stayed at home with the children.
