In the nineteenth century, Dickens was writing a forgettable epic works. "Dickens beliefs and attitudes were typical of the age in which he lived” (Slater 301). The circumstances and financial difficulties caused Dickens’s father to be imprisoned briefly for debt. Dickens himself was put to work for a few months at a shoe-blacking warehouse. Memories of this painful period in his life were to influence much of his later writing, which is characterized by empathy, oppressed, and a keen examination of class distinctions.
Victorianism was the age of the true woman and the Christian gentleman. People valued the sentiments of character and virtue. They truly believed that all a person had to do to be successful in life was consistently work on becoming a morally right, well-rounded person. A significant part of this were the gender roles deeply embedded into the age. As a Christian gentleman, a man was always right with God and a perfect husband in the home; outside of home, he worked hard and provided for the family.

Charles Dickens Sometimes we have to go through tough challenges in our life, especially in our childhood. A good example of a person who had a rough childhood is Charles Dickens. His father was sent to jail and he had to get a job in order for him and his family to have enough money to survive. Although he had a rough childhood, he worked very hard to be the writer we all know him as. Before cellphones and social media, bullying used to be pushing each other around on the playground. Since the evolution of the internet, cell phones, and social media, the amount of bullying has increased drastically. Kids are ganging up on others posting material on social media for everyone to see. III. SOCIAL INFLUENCE AND PREJUDICE The society in the Victorian Era was amidst a great change. Having in mind the fact that they were moving from a pastoral life to industrialization, their lifestyle changed. As with every transition, there is the issue of adapting to changes because people tend to hold onto their principles.
