Charles Dickens
Sometimes we have to go through tough challenges in our life, especially in our childhood. A good example of a person who had a rough childhood is Charles Dickens. His father was sent to jail and he had to get a job in order for him and his family to have enough money to survive. Although he had a rough childhood, he worked very hard to be the writer we all know him as. Despite his rough childhood, Charles Dickens has turned out to be a phenomenal person, both in his writings as well as his contributions.
Biography
Charles Dickens has had many things in his past to help him in his future writings. According to “The Life of Charles Dickens,” he “Started as a freelance reporter of law cases,” he “Admitted as reader at the British Museum in 1830,” and “Became a Parliamentary reporter in 1831.” Because he became a reporter, he learned how to write good stories that the public would want to read. This would help him later on in 1833 when his first short story would be published. As stated by “Biography.com,” “John was sent to prison for debt in 1824, when Charles was just 12 years old. As was written in A Christmas Carol, Scrooge was described as "a squeezing, wrenching, grasping, scraping, clutching, covetous old sinner!" (Dickens 1). This is a good example of descriptive language for it is written with a lot of negative adjectives to tell the reader explicitly that Scrooge is a bad and negative person. Another excerpt from A Christmas Carol, is “Hard and sharp as flint, from which no steel had ever struck out generous fire” (Dickens 1). This is another great form of descriptive language as it conveys to the reader that Scrooge is hard and stern and nothing good ever comes from him.
