Authors during the Victorian period expressed social problems through their novels. Even though, Britain had social inequity and poverty in their own country and expanding rivals on the outside, they could show off to be the dominant country in international relationships. The Victorian period began in 1837 and lasted till 1901. The name of this period is picked up when Queen Victoria becomes a monarch, as the Romantic period concluded around 1830 this was a good opportunity to begin the era. Although, its appearance Victoria’s reign lasted more than any other British sovereign. Consequently, from some of the problems of this era, ranged from brutal labor conditions and extensive poverty to the issue of women’s place in the world; authors were motivated to write every one with his unique writing style form. Rather, than turning inside or escaping into fantasy, novelists chose to directly address the persistent social problems of the day. The novels I have chosen for this essay are “A Tale of Two Cities” by Charles Dickens, “Vanity Fair” By William Makepeace Thackeray and “The Moonstone” by Wilkie Collins.

The writing style of the novel “Vanity Fair” can look pretty simple, but is actually more complicated than it appears. The writing style in the novel, just like in many others of his literary works is satirical. In addition, the tone of the novel is a compilation of different types of humor, jokes, and a sad irony about aristocracy which leaves us with a sense of ruined, immoral family. The author was influenced by the Victorian period to write this novel because of various factors happening at the time, like the aristocracy, or highest class in England who thought they had the obligation to educate the lower class, the corruption, the political conflicts in the country, the economy, the social problems criticized between themselves, and the issue of the woman’s place in the world. However, the novel starts at Miss Pinkerton's School for young women, where Amelia and Becky, the novel's female protagonists meet and begin their vanity life as friends in a men’s world. Amelia and Becky are close, but they are totally opposite. Amelia is kind and innocent and comes from a wealthy family. On the other hand, Becky Sharp is harsh, tricky and come from a poor family. Becky spends a little time at Amelia's home. She spent the time manipulating herself with the Sedleys and dating Amelia's brother
