Mood- the emotional feel of a piece of literature. Ex.1: “Charles Dickens creates a calm and peaceful mood in his novel “Pickwick Papers”: “The river, reflecting the clear blue of the sky, glistened and sparkled as it flowed noiselessly on” (Literary Devices).” Ex.2: Examples of mood; Calm, cheerful, content. Uses: An author uses mood in their literature to get emotional responses from readers and get emotional attachment to the literary piece they read. Moral- a story that has a lesson that is learned. Ex.1: The tortoise and the hare. Ex.2: Treat others the way you want to be treated. Uses: To help teach the readers a life lesson. Motif- a repeated subject that is elaborated throughout the development of a piece. Ex.1: “Frailty, thy name
