In my opinion, Charles Starkweather's life was dictated and shaped by his childhood upbringing. Between December 1957 and January 1958, Charles Starkweather killed 11 people in his hometown of Lincoln, Nebraska. He was only 19 years old when he committed his crimes and he was assisted in his killing spree by his 14-year-old girlfriend, Caril Ann Fugate. Charlie was executed on June 25, 1959, by the electric chair and was buried at Wyuka Funeral Home & Cemetery in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Charles didn't commit any other murders until January 21, 1958, when he killed Fugate's mother, stepfather, and two-year-old sister. On January 27, Starkweather and Fugate took off from Fugate's home and killed a farmer and two teenagers. On January 28, Starkweather and Fugate killed a Lincoln businessman, his wife, and their maid. On January 29 Starkweather and Fugate killed a shoe salesman and they were both captured later that day. The relationship between Starkweather and Fugate reminded me of a quote in Frankenstein that said “It is true, we shall be monsters, cut off from all the world; but on that account, we shall be more attached to one another.”( Shelly 84) Both of these teens probably felt as if they were rebels who were against the rest of humanity just like how Frankensteins' monster felt. In this small period of time, Starkweather killed a total of eleven people. I believe that the small period when Charles committed these actions tells a lot about their mental state and the reasoning behind their actions. This series of murders seemed to be a very intense outburst of emotion that could have been building up inside Starkweather for many years. I think that Charles was just blindly reacting to his emotions without fully understanding and coming to reality about what he was doing. It is difficult to tell whether or not Charles would have continued to kill people in the way he did since he did get caught rather quickly but I think that there is a chance that he could have mentally gotten
