In looking at the characters in this movie, my heart goes out to Jacey because she had to go through so much after Charley was born. I can’t even imagine what it was like having to make the choice to give your baby up at 16, or give your baby up at all. Even though sometimes it’s the only choice when you’re young and you just can’t take care of the baby, maybe because you’re doing school or you don’t have anyone to take care of the baby. As it started to talk about Jacey when she first had Charley , you could tell that she really didn’t want to get rid of Charley.

Learning about Jacey throughout the movie, she was a very smart and brave character. At the beginning of the movie, we were told that Jacey’s mother, Terry Jeffries was Charley’s mother. Throughout the movie we learn that, that is false. We learn that Jacey is actually his mother. It must have been difficult for her to pretend that Charley wasn’t hers. Getting more into the movie, Jacey often fights with her mom. Her mom always argued that at home, she shouldn’t always be taking care of the baby. It also was an open adoption so she still got to see him. Even after saying that she didn’t want to give him away after he was born, because she didn’t want him with strangers and she just didn’t want to get rid of him. She was very strong, and was still able to make a good decision to give Charley to people she knew and trust, people who she knew would give him the life that he needed and deserved. Charley was definitely put with a loving family. It also probably created a healthy relationship between Donna, Bob, Charley, and Jacey. As Charley grows up, he will know his birth mother and his adoptive mother loved him very much, and he’ll be able to understand that Jacey didn’t want to give him away but that she thought that it was what was best for
