The writing Style of Charlotte’s Web is that White wrote it in the third person and we know this because as the story is being told there is no use of “I.” White is using third person omniscient point of view as well because the narrator seems to know all the thoughts that the main character of the story has, while including other characters as well to show the reader how all the characters play into the plot and how each character helps the other character. We know that the story is being told in the third person. The narrator who is telling us the story seems to be focusing on Wilbur who is the main character but the narrator also focuses on the other animals that live on the farm because they all play a role in the story and the actions that …show more content…

An example that I found in Charlotte’s Web that shows us the writing style of third person with a third person omniscient point of view is that the sheep in the story seems to know things that other characters do not know, especially Wilbur. For example on page 49 there is a conversation between the sheep and Wilbur that shows the reader that the narrator and other characters know the actions of the main characters. On page 49 it states, “One afternoon, when Fern was sitting on her stool, the oldest sheep walked into the barn, and stopped to pay a call on Wilbur.” “Hello!” she said. “Seems to me you’re putting on weight.” “Yes, I guess I am,” replied Wilbur. “At my age it’s a good idea to keep gaining.” “Just the same, I don’t envy you,” said the old sheep. You know why they’re fattening you up, don’t you?” “No,” said Wilbur. “Well I don’t like to spread bad news,” said the sheep, “but they’re fattening you up because they’re going to kill you, that’s why.” “They’re going to what?” screamed Wilbur” (White 49).
