Cheer leading is full of thrills and adrenaline. We excite the crowds and throw our bodies in ways that defy gravity. As fun as cheer leading sounds, are you aware of how costly it is? Many people believe that cheer is not a sport so we don’t need school funding, but we are just as much a sport as any other team, a lot of people struggle to pay for cheer expenses, we are a competitive sport but it costs a lot to compete, and we support/ cheer on the school. A fundraising website for cheer leading, snapraise.com, states that the average cost for competitive cheer typically ranges from $2,000 - $3,000 per season for just one athlete. And that’s not including their own personal things for cheer. Cheer is very costly and a lot of cheerleaders struggle to pay for the basic necessities of a cheerleader, like uniforms, cheer shoes, pom-poms, cheer bows, etc. We are a self funded program so some people can not afford simple things that are needed. A lot of money goes into preparation for competitions, and don’t forget actually paying for the competition. This biggest competition we look forward to all season is Nationals. It takes place in Orlando, Florida, usually at the start of February, and is held by the UCA. It costs a ton of money for just one person to fly to Florida, find a place to stay, and actually compete. It’s a very stressful process and the booster club pays for all of our expenses, without any school funds. The booster club consists of cheer moms who chose to take on the financial responsibilities so that the money we pay is getting used properly, they also help with finding fundraising ideas. With the school’s help, we wouldn’t have to put so much stress into fundraising and begging people for money just to
