Landon Norris Dr. Knight Honors ELA - 8th Grade 15 March 2021 Chemical and Physical Change I-Search Paper In ELA, Dr. Knight will research a science or history theme of our choice. The theme I chose was science. More specifically, I chose chemical and physical changes. I chose to research the two different changes because they seemed interesting. Another reason was that we were learning about them in science class, and I wanted to learn more about them than what was taught. The changes have a lot of interesting facts about them. Before researching the changes, I knew a lot about them. However, one thing I did not know was some examples of the changes, such as breaking glass, a physical change, and rusting, a chemical change. An example of something I did …show more content…
Chemical changes have many different examples. One of my articles states, “In a chemical reaction, there is a change in the composition of the substances in question” (Libretexts, para 1). The chemical attributes are being changed. In one of my articles, it states, “Some chemical changes are a little more difficult to spot, like when a nail rusts” (Generation Guinness, para 3). A nail rusting is a chemical change because it changes the chemical properties of the nail. Later on in the article, it references that, if you notice a change in color or temperature or bubbles forming, there is a good chance a chemical change has taken place, but not always (Generation Guinness, para 4). A change in color or temperature could be a physical change, but when you leave a substance out and either the color changes or temperature changes, you could have a chemical change going on. In a different article it states, “...if one were to observe the rusting of metal over time, one would realize that the metal has changed color and turned orange. This change in color is evidence of a chemical reaction” (Libretexts, para 26). When the steel starts corroding, it turns into
