Since being established more than 100 years ago, Chevrolet has gone above and beyond in advancing the automobile industry. Chevrolet’s production line started out fairly shaky with their first failure. It quickly stabilized with the creation of the 490.The 490 had an incredible price point and capability. The new engine quickly beat out competitors, taking major sales from Ford’s Model T. The four-cylinder, 24-horsepower engine was used by Chevrolet up until 1930, when the engine ultimately became a thing of the past. The 490 gave the Chevrolet brand a big spot on the automobile market and helped Chevrolet become a serious competitor in the automobile industry. V8 engines were often used in cars in the 1950’s, but it wasn’t until Chevrolet created the small block V8 that the engine was widely used.Chevrolet’s V8 engine became the standard of General Motors, being used in all GM divisions. Coined the “Mighty Mouse” the engine grew overtime, from a 4.3 liter, eventually up into a 5.7
