Trucks are something almost everyone at some point in there life need to own. There a great source of transportation, a great way to haul big loads, great vehicle to work out of, and just so many more reasons someone should own a truck. Many people these days use there trucks for there job and to travel around for there job. Many construction workers need to have something reliable to drive them to there job sites but also something the can beat up and knock around and not have to worry about it.
William Durant, also known as Billy, and Louis Chevrolet started to sell chevrolet cars in 1911. They were both part of the General Motors company. The first Chevrolet trucks were sold in 1918 and it was the 490 Light Delivery chassis cowl. It consisted of metal that was painted metal, a wooden cab, an engine, and a transmission. The series 490 was powered by a 4 cylinder engine that was 171 cubic inches. It had a 3 speed transmission and was rated for maximum load of 1,000lbs. Chevrolet also came out with the Model T truck in 1918. This was a 1 ton heavy duty truck. This Model T had a 4 cylinder engine which was a 224 cubic inches motor. It didn't take long for Ford and Dodge to come right back though. Ford came out with a flat head V8 in 1932 and Dodge in 1933. The new 6 cylinder in the Chevys upgraded there one-ton pickups and now they were called 1-1/2 ton. These engines were also put in the half ton trucks and allowed higher speeds for deliverymen and salesman to make more stops in one day. Chevrolet kept getting better and better and by 1937 they had bigger and better trucks than anyone. In 1950 Chevrolet came out with its largest pickup which was the model 3800 one-ton which was built on a 137” chassis which is much longer then there other trucks. It also had a stronger transmission and a 216.5 cubic inch Thrift-master
