“For me the dumbest rule is that you can’t chew gum in school. For some reason, chewing gum for me gets my brain going,” Brie Larson once said. Many schools do not allow students to chew gum in school. Teachers have differing views about whether students should be allowed to chew gum in school. Some believe that gum chewing is the nastiest habit in the world, it can impede the learning process, and gum chewing can be noisy and distracting to other students. Others teachers make their own rules. They allow gum chewing as long as it does not interfere with their ability to teach or students ' ability to concentrate. In the article, “Can chewing gum really help students focus,” it says, “Children learn through their senses – and oral activity can be very calming," said Cybulski. "The act of chewing gum also provides constant sensory input to the muscles in the jaw and ears and we find it helps children to concentrate better." (Pooley 1).
