Examine the theme of home in Chicago and I Ask My Mother To Sing.

The poems ‘Chicago’ and ‘I Ask My Mother To Sing’ examine the theme home. Moreover, both poems give a distinctive feeling about home. In ‘Chicago’, the poet Carl Sandburg focuses on how Chicago the city becomes the very people who inhabit it. It makes the reader feel the pulse of the city, and the heart of the people. “I Ask My Mother To Sing” is a poem made up of four stanzas. It signifies remembrance, nostalgia and sentimental which connects towards the theme home. Throughout the whole poem, it talks about the song, which was being sung. It emphasizes the sound and warmth of the poem. Which relates to the bonds the mother and daughter has.

In the second stanza, the word ‘Peking’ is related to Beijing. Which makes the readers become aware that the speaker is talking about China.
