It is with great interest that I submit to you my essay for an opportunity in the Center for STEM and Education Research program at Chicago State University. I attended Lebanon High School from 2012 to 2016. Throughout high school, I maintained a 3.9 GPA and filled my schedule with core classes along with dual credit, AP, and elective courses. I was accepted into Chicago State University the spring of 2016 and began my studies in August of 2016. I have maintained a 4.0 GPA throughout my first year of undergraduate studies. I was awarded Chicago State University Freshman Honorary Society, Delta Alpha, Chicago State University Dean’s List, Chicago State University Scholar Athlete, and the Presidential Honor Award. At the beginning of my undergraduate studies, I was pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in biology and then planned on applying for medical school. After discussions with my professors, I have decided to open myself up to more options and I am now considering attending graduate school. I would like to use this opportunity to help determine which career path is best for me. Currently, I am still undecided about which career path I would like to pursue.

I will use this research opportunity as a chance to expand my knowledge and research skills. The research opportunity will allow me to gain a hands-on experience and help me find the best option for furthering my education. I am interested in working with Dr. Maselli on the formation, stability, and structure of Hirano Bodies. His research will allow me to enhance my molecular biology and cell biology understanding. Also, this will aid in teaching me various microscopy techniques.

I am currently in need of financial assistance to help pay for my undergraduate studies. This research opportunity will allow me to excel in both the classroom and the community while lessening my financial burden.
