The chicano movement was an empowering action that took towards high schools in los angeles. this is an important subject to talk about because it's action that helped latino students become who we are today. if we did not have this action taken place then us, latino students, would have faces discrimination and racism in our high schools. latinos, specifically chicanos, had a long way to go from the 1900’s. chicano high students suffered a lot of discrimination. high schools in the 1900’s especially in los angels were very racist towards students from being pushed for speaking their language, being denied knowledge of their background, and being told they can not succeed due to their ethnicity. On March 6 of 1968, students from these schools walked out, creating walkouts which later on were called as “blowouts”. They were protesting for equality meaning these schools were against Mexican american students and their education. The students faced racial discrimination and segregation. The actions such as walkouts and protests, made a social change today. If the students did not have the strength to do any of this and speaking out, Latinos today might have suffered. As much as they did. Though, right now, there are a couple of discriminatory comments about Latinos, I feel like a way to help this is speak out. Most of us stay quiet because we feel smaller than others. I used to believe my opinion did not matter since I was in the lower part of the chart. I want people to stand up and not let actions that they dislike pass by. Each race has gone through a struggle and ours, happen to be this movement. in order to delete this stereotype need to start realizing our past actions we need need to start realizing individual's race pasts. students need to know about the Chicano movement because it's a strong movement that led to equality. our whole world is made up of different races, ethnicity, and culture. when I learned about this I was fascinated because i didn't know this happened. it made me realize that i don't know what has happened that led me to be the person who i am
