Policy Paper Establishment of policy The creation of policy is crucial towards creating positive changes towards the injustices, discrimination, and inequalities within our world. Through advocacy positive change is possible. Systematically, there are branches with authoritative power that control and dictate which policies will be passed and implemented. The populations being oppressed and forgotten have a voice through advocacy. All around the world there are children being abused and neglected which creates dysfunction interrelating with the social issue of human trafficking. Innately children that have been abused, are susceptible to becoming retraumatized by the system. The act provides increased funding through grants towards supporting child advocacy centers, nonprofit organizations, programs, and juvenile justice services. Increased funding allows for agencies to provide support to children to deter from retraumatized a child by having them retell their stories about their abuse to courts and law enforcement agencies. The act encourages the collaboration among agencies to focus on the victimized children and their needs. The act emphasized the importance of supporting the child’s needs of having an advocate speak on their behalf such as a social worker, court appointed special advocates CASA worker, law enforcement officer, a teacher, and so on. When attempting to avoid retraumatizing a child that has been abused it is vital to encompass and protect the emotional and mental state of the victim (Fox,2015). Children who are being abused and/or neglected are extremely vulnerable and need extra compassion and support while dealing with trauma. With the implementation of Victims of Child Abuse Act Reauthorization Act of 2013, it sets a motion for providing justice and interventions for children, so they can reach their fullest potential despite the adversities and trauma/s they have faced. Biden (2012) said “Nothing is more important than protecting children”. Without, the advocacy, community outreach, and support measures, the policy would not have been funded. The implementation of the policy works towards creating positive change for innocent children who eventually mature into adults that lead our world.
