When asked to pick a 501c3 organization only one major came to mind, which was the Children Advocacy Center (CAC) www.TNCAC.org. This non-profit caught my attention while doing my research because as a police officer I work with a lot of different agencies such as the state police who work cases for crimes against children. According to the Children’s Advocacy Centers of Tennessee a child is abused or neglected every 48 seconds. The Child Advocacy Center located in Memphis Tennessee addresses the need that parents and love one seeks for their child after they have been abused either sexually or severe physically. In August of 2017, a 15-year-old male was indicted on first degree murder, rape of a child and aggravated child abuse due to the activities he performed on hos two younger sisters and younger brother. A child who has been severely abused can receive needed counseling by a therapist at the Child Advocacy Center along with an advocate who can be beside that person if charges are placed on the suspect.
Sexual child abuse is on the rise across the states because of the increased usage of technology. Social media is allowing our younger generation to fall victims of sexual abuse due to them engaging with someone on the internet that they have never met. Once meeting that unknown person, they are kidnapped and raped or forced into prostitution. The Child Advocacy Center offers counseling and education to our youth who have been a victim of rape and other sexual crimes.
The objective of the Child Advocacy Center is to help victims be children again. Abuse can cause emotional, physical, and mental issues with a person if he/she is not properly treated with the help that is needed. I do not think that the mission statement is specific enough in giving guidance for the actual objectives and activities of the organization. How I would improve this mission statement is ad some source of security and safe haven in the statement. My reasoning behind such is over my years in law-enforcement I find it very common that most families and individuals find it hard to speak with CAC representative, because they are not sure if they could trust the representative enough that the information wont get back to the abuser because they fear that the situations would get worse. I believe that just stating the fact that all interviews and cases are confidential will help more of the victim involved in abusive house holds would come forward and address certain
