The money it would cost to pay for childcare while I am at work would pretty much be what I make that day. I would have to seek assistance from the government. And as mentioned previously, welfare is a cycle that although has and does help many, it keeps them in that same financial position. All in all, the face of poverty is not limited to the sad and depressing commercials you see on television. The face of poverty is not unclean and clothed in rags.
AO4 - Government responses to social issues and welfare needs Introduction Tony Blair came into power in 1999, he then declared that child poverty should be eradicated from the UK by the year 2020. The Child Poverty Act was introduced and recognised in 2010; it was made legislation to meet four targets for child poverty by 2020. These targets are to reduce the amount of children living in relative poverty to less than 10%, the second target is to reduce the amount of children that live in a low income household and material deprivation to less than 5%, the third target is to reduce the amount of children suffering from persistent poverty and lastly, to reduce the amount of children living in absolute poverty to less than 5%. The legislation involves the state considering a new child poverty strategy every three years, where policies are set to attempt to meet the targets established. Child poverty fell to 2.3 million in 2010/11, however this did not meet the Governments target of halving child poverty, this number remained consistent up until 2012/13 (Kennedy, 2014).
Supporters of the Act believe the Act is necessary because it has provided protection to Indian children and their families. The ICWA has been an important piece of legislation because it sought to rectify historical injustices the Native Americans encountered. There was a lack of knowledge about the American Indians’ customs and mores and for many, they believed the American way of doings things were far more superior (Cross, 2014). Opponents, on the other hand, argue that the Indian Child Welfare Act is flawed and should be changed or abolished completely. They believe the Act has not protected the Indian youth’s interests, but has instead caused more problems and trauma for the youth.
The cost of childcare is tremendous. Children whose parents are absent from their life are more at-risk to being in poverty themselves or seeking other means such as gangs. Children who grow up in poverty also have a disadvantage in opportunities. People who are poor have to live in low-income housing areas. The educational systems in impoverished areas are not a sufficient source of education for the children.
Foster Care System Downfalls: The foster care system is setup to provide needs and protect children who have been neglected or abused. The main goal of the system is to take the children out of dangerous homes, and relocate them to a safe home, and to hopefully reunite the children with their biological families. While they are in foster care, their life should be greatly improved. Help should be given to those who are struggling with mental and emotional disabilities.
My children has toys and suplais that I never see in my early child. For example, my mother and my dad hold me by hands and I learne to walk, but my children use the sircule when the babies can walk alone and get feet to tach in floor. The same way I think today daycare have self- help skills that most caregivers are willing to put up with the value independence, practice in this country is to let or even encourage children to take over their own activity as soon as they are
Many children go through a lot of problems and situations which can make them end up being looked after. There are children and young people benefiting and beginning a new life from this it gives them hope, self-confidence and joy to life and realising how to love and to be loved by another human being. Also, that freedom from whatever they have gone through before and recovering from that but, unfortunately not all gets a good care. Just the reason because they are being looked after care does not that mean they cannot have the same opportunities as others. A good guidance of new foster or adopted parents that local authority arranges for the child can lead them to have a happy and successful person in life.
Head Start is a federal funded program for children between ages three to five who are underprivileged and come from low income families. A child’s mind when they first go to school is rapidly developing and at school teachers are responsible for guiding their students and helping them develop throughout the school year. If a child gets a bad teacher they can’t develop like they are suppose to. For many low income families public schools are their only option and before Head Start public schools didn’t really have a good preschool option. If a child attended preschool it regularly costed money and poor, low income families couldn’t afford to send their children to a private preschool.
In addition, some states and localities have implemented targeted funding to increase the availability of child care in high-need areas. Examples of initiatives to address child care deserts include the Child Care and Development Fund (CCDF) in the United States, which provides funding to states to increase the availability of child care for low-income families, and the "Child Care Deserts" report by the Center for American Progress, which identifies areas with the greatest need for child care assistance. Increasing funding for childcare programs can have a significant impact on addressing the financial, safety, and social concerns of both parents and children and childcare providers. Additional funding for childcare programs can be used to reduce the cost of child care for families, making it more affordable for low-income families to access child care services. This can help to alleviate the financial burden that many families face when trying to find quality care for their children.
As a whole, the policy implemented by the Department of Job and Family Services could also have an impact on society. The United States spent almost $26 billion on child welfare services in federal fiscal year 2006. The federal government provided over $12 billion, state governments almost $11 billion, and local governments almost $3 billion (http://www.childwelfarepolicy.org/perspectives?id=0001). In most states, foster care children are eligible for Medicaid cards, including dental, medical, and counseling services; however, the financing structure has not kept pace with a changing child welfare field. The program is authorized by title IV-E of the Social Security Act, as amended, and implemented under the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) at 45 CFR parts 1355, 1356, and 1357.
I did know that although children are taken out of abusive homes, that the foster care is flawed and children can be/ are emotionally abused and damaged. However, I did not know that the number one reason that children are put into foster care is poverty. It definitely makes sense, poverty is huge here in America. Teenagers get pregnant and put their children up in the foster care system, people have children and lose jobs. Social workers play a huge role in foster care and child abuse.
McKeen (2006) argues that the conceptual models of the mainstream society and policy community cleverly hold child welfare model with an assumption that the child welfare programs can effectively treat the assumed deficiencies of the
They should use the money they get from people to support the daycares or families that are low income families. “The idea of government support is, or should be, to assist working citizens. Low income parents should get help with child care. Being able to work should be the goal and it encourages people to support and better themselves rather than depend on the government as much. If assistance is given with child care it may reduce the amount of other services provided.
Introduction: Child Care Service – What is it? Child care is an industry that provides quality help to countless mothers and fathers who are in need of qualified, capable providers to take care of their children. Without child care providers, there would be less jobs and many stressed mothers and fathers. Child care is a very impersonal industry, where no existing or past relationships must be made in order to do business, save nannies and at-home care providers. Child care providers help make the transition into childhood education much smoother by teaching the children letters, numbers, and shapes, while giving them proper diet and exercise.
Krugman’s was a pediatrician and he wanted to show that pediatrician’s day to day lives involve child advocacy. First, Krugman started by telling us the context of child negligence. Then, the article went on to tell us that individuals, families, communities, and federal/state are all the ways that you could be involved in child abuse advocacy. The main topic for this article would be that Child Advocacy could be done in a wide variety of ways. Some examples would be providing healthy food for a community with low income families or just by speaking up for the children because most of the time their voice will not be heard.
