Child custody is defined as ”the care, control, and maintenance of a child, which a court may award to one of the parents following a divorce or separation proceeding” (Child Custody, 2016). The roles that parents are expected to assume in raising their children during marriage and after divorce have changed considerably over time, and will continue to change with time. As a child of divorce, having been divorced with two children, marrying a divorcee with two children, and working as a paralegal in an office that practices family law, I have a great deal of experience with child custody arrangements.
