You may know that chocolate is made by cocoa, but there 's also one more hidden ingredient inside of the sweet treat. The secret ingredient is child labor. Child labor in the chocolate industry is said to be one of the worst forms of child labor. About 70% of cocoa comes from Ghana and the Ivory Coast. As a result, owners need employees to help harvest the plant, so they use children to do the work. Instead of working on cocoa farms, the proper place for children is at a school earning an education, not outside every day working in unhealthy conditions. Every child should have the chance to have a proper education instead of living in poverty. First of all, there are many children in Ghana, West Africa living in harsh conditions because they are too young to be working on the cocoa farms. Second of all, the children’s health can be badly affected when working on the farm. Third of all, the poor children also works for many hours and lacks an education. This issue is very important because it violates the rights of the poverty-stricken children of Ghana. Furthermore, human traffickers take advantage of the children and won’t pay them what they deserve. Fortunately, everyone can do something about this cruel issue, we can all help fund organizations or etc. that help stop child labor in the chocolate industry. It is important to defend human rights, especially children’s, because human rights mean everyone is equal, every single person on this planet is equal to one another. Additionally, no one is greater than the other nor are they less than one another, that is the way it should be, and everyone has the authority to have all of the legal rights. To sum it up, child labor in the chocolate manufactory is an international human rights violation affecting many poverty-stricken children in Ghana
