Definitions, symptoms, causes, risk factors, complications, treatment and drugs, lifestyle and home remedies, and prevention of obesity are highlighted. This site is a bit different because it adds information on preparing for your medical appointment, test and diagnosis, and coping and support. The information provided from Mayo Clinic is reliable and is similar to the data collected from the Harvard School of Public Health and the CDC. The Mayo Clinic provides fact based content on the subject of childhood obesity so it is not considered biased. The goal of using this source is to show once a doctor has diagnosed obesity that other tests ordered will be looking for comorbid conditions that exist with obesity in the child. The information provided by the Mayo Clinic fits well into my research paper because it offers facts on how morbid obesity does not usually exist on its own. It has not changed the way I feel about morbid obesity in children. The authors equates that under or over nourished are equally unhealthy and that some states are making decisions based on this statement. Each state has it’s own definition of neglect and therefore differences will be seen in how the judges will respond to a case before them. Cases have been court charging parents with neglect of obese children. In cases where children were removed from the parents care temporarily, and when they were reunified with their parents the nutrition and activity changed to a less healthy form the children’s weight gain
