Partnerships like this are for the financial benefit of the organization that the Coca Cola company brings. They are not truly worried about the overall health of the consumers looking to them for guidance. Today, we see more advertisements with celebrities for non nutritious foods than the foods that are legitimately beneficial to our health. Children watch their favorite sports players advertise for McDonalds. We are ultimately engraving unhealthy habits in our children everywhere they turn. At the pre-adolescent age, children are looking for guidance and are more malleable and easier influenced than later in life. I believe better education of younger children, and even parents, on what is actually nutritious and healthy will make a difference. Many parents who are obese themselves, look at packages labeled “low fat” and assume that is a good option. More often than not, the labels on processed foods from the grocery store are misleading or inaccurate. As a country, we need to really invest time and money into this epidemic. With enough motivation and drive, we can eventually start to reverse the number of children suffering from obesity.
