Within the first part of To Kill A Mockingbird, quite a few instances of racism and prejudice arose.

Not everyone agrees that immunization should be mandatory for children. In 1855 the small pox vaccine was mandatory for school children, however many did not want their children to receive it. People became opposed to mandatory immunizations because they did not want bad germs in a healthy body. The controversy still exists today however the reasoning has changed. In the 1800s and early 1900s people feared the injection and people also didn't know enough about immunizations to formulate an educated opinion.

One main factor that makes the vaccines safe is the ingredients used. While used in large quantities, thimerosal, formaldehyde, and aluminum can be dangerous but scientist have lowered the dosage to a healthy form. Along with using safe ingredients, each vaccine has to be tested up to 10 years or more before they are licensed.
Child vaccinations ensure that children have a well-armed immune system to fight off deadly diseases. Vaccinations contain antigens that trigger the immune system to make antibodies for that specific disease; this allows the body to think it has been infected, without causing the person any symptoms (Reddy 1). Throughout the United States, parents have been debating whether to delay, refuse, or accept the vaccinations that are given to their children. Why would you not want to give your child the best possible chance to fight off a deadly disease? Vaccinating children does not only affect the child, but also the community.
To vaccinate or not to vaccinate? That is the question. Vaccination has sparked heated debate since its development amongst the following groups; parents, naturopaths, medical professionals, etc. Fuel has been added to the fire of the vaccine debate by the media and anti-vaxxer fear mongering tactics, making it hard for those considering vaccination, to decipher fact from myth. It is vital that we first understand the facts rather than believing the latest rumor before making an informed decision to vaccinate or not.
There has been a huge controversy concerning vaccination for children from many parents. Many parents had different reason on why they were for or against vaccination. Some for religious purposes, concerned about the long-term side effects. Most parents feel that vaccine is poison. The fact that doctors are injecting something into their child can be terrifying.
If people begin to decide to opt out of vaccines, they not only make a decision that leaves them susceptible to dangerous and deadly diseases, they open up the rest of their civilization to contamination. When taking into account whether or not to vaccinate your child, you are making a decision not merely for your child, but a decision for all of the other children your child comes into contact with. Un-immunized kids can endanger a whole community. When deciding whether or not to vaccinate your child, you need to see the whole picture, and not just a little sliver of possibility. We have seen how it is far more dangerous to opt out of a vaccine, than it is to receive one.

Some children cannot get vaccinations for various reasons. They are at risk every day because they will not be immune to these diseases if they come across them. Other children may carry the disease, and their parents did not decide to immunize them, giving the helpless, unvaccinated other child no chance to overcome the disease. Polio, for example is one disease that was very prominent in the ‘50s and ‘60s, soon after, a vaccine was created. A 2017 study show that, “Polio does still exist, although polio cases have decreased by over 99% since 1988, from an estimated more than 350,000 cases to 22 reported cases in 2017.

Most of the time children don’t like vaccination because it hurt, but is the responsibility of a parent to seek the wellbeing of his or her child. Vaccination it’s a preventive measure of various diseases. Vaccines are like traffic lights; they ensure the safety of the public, be in heavily crowded areas, like schools, or densely trafficked roads. Traffic lights only work when all people follow the rules. If a car runs a red light, the car runs the risk of killing innocent pedestrians who are complying with the prescribed rules. Vaccines, if not utilized by most people, are ineffective. Even though some parents are concerned over the safety of vaccines, children who go to public schools should not be granted exemptions because vaccines are necessary to prevent outbreaks, children who do not receive vaccines are at risk of disease, and medically compromised children rely on vaccines to prevent disease.
