Dear Ms. Stockton, I would like to tell you about the book Children of Exile by Margaret Haddix. The book is about a girl named Rosie. She lives in a place called Fred town where everything is perfectly organized and peaceful. Her life is turned upside down when she and all the other children that live in Fred town, are flown to their real parents in a town nothing like they have been prepared for. It is ridden by crime and discrimination. As she tries to make sense of this new reality, so different from what she is used to, she begins to realize that the way people are treated is directly linked to the color of their eyes. The people with brown eyes are treated much better than the people with green eyes like her own. At the end, she is imprisoned but quickly escapes back to Fred town which leads into the next book of the series. In this book, a reader can see how much Rosie cares about her little brother and how hard she tries to protect him. She has to tell the people what she is doing all the timed"I was protecting Bobo," I say "Keeping him safe"(pg59).
