Social media can lead to many things such as cyberbullying, a person catfishing, or invasion of privacy. Many people tend to use social media as a way to bully people. Which isn’t a good thing bullying shouldn't exist at all. Not only that but people also tend to use social media to make a fake account to talk to someone or pretend to be someone else.
Would you want anyone to ban books so you couldn’t further your education? School Board members should not ban certain books because students can get more of a challenge from certain books, you also can get many life lessons from a more mature book, and students also get more of a choice which means more books to read. One reason I believe school board members should not ban books is because it gives students more of a challenge. For example, teachers like to challenge kids to read above their grade level and reading more mature books will get them there. However, how will they get assigned harder or more challenging books if those kinds of books are banned from the school library.
Lois Lowry quotes, “Submitting to censorship is to enter the seductive world of ‘The Giver’: the world where there are no bad words and no bad deeds. But it is also the world where choice has been taken away and reality distorted. And that is the most dangerous world of all.” She states censorship controls us and it gives us no choice. With having censorship in schools is where the falling of education comes into play.
Schools all across America have banned novels that can help kids learn and grow. Speak, is one novel that has been challenged by many schools. Speak is about a very relatable high schooler named Melinda Sordino. It has many great lessons to teach and has helped lots of kids get through troubling times. Speak is an example of why schools should not be allowed to ban books or authors.
According the American Library Association, over 11,300 books have been challenged since the origin of banned books began 33 years ago. These books are most often challenged by parents rather than organizations, teachers or religious groups and the majority of books banned are within schools and their libraries. The Giver has been a banned/challenged book. What that means is that someone at one point had a attempt to remove the novel from a library, classroom or city, by that restricting the access to reading this book to others around.
Censoring Books In Public Schools Is Necessary To Protect The Children Books have been censored for decades, mostly for secular and religious reasons. With the invention of the printing press in 1450, it became harder to eliminate offensive books, however a study conducted at the American Library Association (ALA), says that most books have been challenged by parents followed by patrons, a board or administration, librarians or teachers, political and religious groups, and the government. The same study showed that “sexually explicit content, offensive language, and "unsuited to any age group" are the top three reasons cited for requesting a book to be removed” (“Banned Books”). Books in public schools should continue to be censored for the protection of children and the improvement of society.
Banned Books: Good or Bad? Banned Books Week has been during the last week of September, dating back to 1982 (Glencoe Public Library). There have been multiple banned or challenged books around the world. For example, To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee has been banned by a public school in Mississippi because it makes people feel uncomfortable while reading.
What are Books? Books are the keys to the future and meant to give its readers a moral lesson. Often times we forget about what the book is saying and only look at how it is said. For this reason many generations are are left out on the knowledge and moral lessons that the books give. They are left out because the books that obtain the knowledge and moral lessons are banned from high school libraries.
However, many off turn a blind eye to the negative impact it has and will continue to have on society. For instance, although the ability to share images and videos with loved ones instantaneously regardless of where they are in the world is amazing; a simple oversight in the privacy settings could potentially place those pictures and/or videos in the wrong hands, which could be used to bully. In fact, “the depression and anxiety from cyberbullying are significant and have been the cause of many suicides in America” (Richards, Caldwell, & Go, 2015). Therefore, it is imperative that social media is not only monitored, but usage is
When children and teens commit a violent crime such as murder, courts convict them as adults. This means that children as young as eight have been tried as adults in court. Eventually, these convicts will be housed in jails with adults. Despite the federal law stating that juvenile and adult inmates must be separated, most states do not comply with these rules. Furthermore, a law that varies throughout the states is the age in which courts send the children to adult or juvenile prisons.
Blowing you’re nose in a classroom while other students are attempting to learn is absolutely disgusting. Tissue paper owners should be banned from schools. Students who blow their noses in class have no respect for themselves or others. There should be a rule made for these disappointing behaviors that take place at schools. To start off, students who blow their noses in class distracts other students from learning.
There may be some reasons why social media is good for kids, but all and all social media is dangerous to the well-being and education of minors. To start with, social media is dangerous to kids that are online because people can be anonymous, predators, and/or cyberbullies. For example, Hinduja, a professor of criminal justice, at Florida Atlantic University says that about 20% of youth have been either victims or perpetrators of cyberbullying. Also, masking one 's identity on the internet make someone more likely to be a cyberbully (SIRS 1). Masking one’s identity can be a serious problem.
Should kids be allowed to use social media ? Could young children be able to manage social media ? I disagree with this . I think that children 13 and under shouldn 't be using social media until they are mature enough . Social media like Instagram , Snapchat , Facebook , WhatsApp , and Messenger can cause children to have health issues , waste their time , and it can be dangerous.
Social media are mostly used by adults and adolecents. However, there are a lot of children that already use social media. Based on the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act, children under 13 years are not allowed to use social media for it can give bad impact for the children who actively use it. The first bad impact is the children can easily access to bad and inappropriate contents.
Should parents limit the use of social media for teenagers? That is a common question that is asked quite frequently in a world soaring with new technology and new social media sites. Today, teenagers live in a highly controlled technological world. When you look around, you always see a substantial amount of people scrolling on through their phone, barely paying attention to their surrounding environment and I have to say that sometimes I find myself in this situation as well. Every day, new advancements and applications dealing with technology are coming out that alter social function and capability.
