Nowadays, people have easily accessed to advanced technologies such as cell phones, computer, television. Therefore, children are also exposed to television earlier. The storybook is not an only kind of media for children to learn anymore. It is very important to know how children’s development of theory of mind may be influenced by exposure of different kinds of narrative media such as storybook, television, and movies. Preschoolers are always encouraged to expose to storybooks in order to help them to learn language skills. It is beneficial for their social cognition development. However, beside the storybooks, the other kinds of media such as television, or movies may have some benefits for preschoolers as well. Therefore, the recent study (Mara, Tackett, & Moore 2010) has examined whether exposure of different kinds of media such as children's storybooks, television, and movies correlate to the theory of mind development. The participants of the study included fifty-five children who were from four to six years old and one of their parents aging from twenty-eight to fifty. Five different tasks from this scaled set were performed in the study. Diverse Desires tests a child’s ability to understand that other people have different desires about the same objects. Diverse Belief tests the ability of the child to differ beliefs about the same object while he or she does not know which belief is right. Knowledge access tests a child’s ability to understand that it is not necessary for everyone to know the truth. Content False Belief tests a child’s ability to understand that someone may have a false belief. The last task was Real—Apparent Emotion which tests a child’s ability to understand that someone may express their emotion differing than what he or she actually feels
