The earliest Chinese food cultural fundamental theory is “hunger breeds discontentment”. It means people’s lives depend on food and they must rely on food resources to survive. This theory was the only aspect I can recall when people asked me what the influence of food in China is. However, after I studied abroad, I have discovered that a nation’s food can reveal its culture and history.
Before I went to the United States, I was excited and looked forward to study in the new environment not only because I love adventures, but also that the fascinating America food I imagined. The fast food industries are becoming one of the leading food industry because the needs from the people. Most of the Western food have something in common, they care about the food quality and nutrition. Compare to Western food, Chinese food was concentrate on solving the hungry and now is focusing on the taste. The Chinese restaurant do not calculate the calories and do not care about collocation diet. However, healthy has become people’s attentions and Chinese food are learning from Western food regarding how to make the food taste good and healthy at the same time. When I was in primary school, I always go to a Chinese restaurant near the school. Last week I visited my primary school and that restaurant was still there. The decoration has changed but the owner is still the same. They used to have some delicious dishes such like Chinese BBQ with spicy sauce, but now the menu has changed to ABC meals. The meal include a drink, a salad, and one main dish. It looks much healthier than the old menu.
