The Other Wes Moore was written by Wes Moore (the one not in jail). This book isn’t just one of the usual autobiographies written by a successful African American. The stories of the two men depicted in the book show how a person’s decisions can affect their entire life. The idea that two people can come from the same background and have similar ethnicity and economic status, but end up with different outcomes, is very intriguing and genius as a book. The responsibility, self-sufficiency and ability to be a leader all have an effect on how a person experiences life.
In her speech, “For the Equal Rights Amendment” Shirley Chisholm addresses her views on securing women’s equality to ensure women have better opportunities. She is an American politician, educator and author that became the first black woman elected to the United States Congress. Chisholm supports her claims about equal rights for women by using examples of statistics to prove a point. Her purpose is to persuade her audience that women in America are neglected by equal rights and excluded from things that men are not. Throughout her deliverance she expressed an inspiring and informative tone to uplift her audience so that Congress can make a change for women.
Ronald White, a professor at the college of St. Joseph in Cincinnati wrote a writing piece Moral Inquiry to explained his logical reasons about ethical decision making. White also observed and talked about the Markkula framework opinions about human behavior. Not only did he explain the logic of these theories, but he also revealed some examples to his audience. Throughout the different writing pieces that were displayed, White used three theories to support his main theories; teleological theories, deontological theories, and virtue-based system theories. Each of these theories consist of the act of human behavior.
Many people believe that fate is determined by natural ability, while others believe that one's destiny is determined by themselves. So, innate talent or preparation? Authors David Epstein and Malcolm Gladwell have opposing views on this topic. David Epstein, the author of The Sports Gene, says that natural ability is linked to success, rather than preparation and training. However, Malcolm Gladwell, author of Outliers: The Story of Success, concludes that achievement is the result of preparation and not just innate talent.
In other words, when we say that an act is “free” that the act has the freedom necessary for moral responsibility. It does not mean that there is no cause, or that it was caused by a previous event that is caused by a previous event. It mean that it was caused by a person. This is what Chisholm means by an “agent.”
In this situation, Chisholm will say that if X’s association with the white supremacist outfit caused him to slap the black man, then X is not responsible for slapping the black man. But if X caused himself to join the white supremacist outfit then X has still caused himself to join an outfit which lead him to slap the black man. Therefore X can be held morally responsible but If X was forced to join white supremacist outfit then X cannot be held responsible for his slap to the black man because he did not cause himself to join that outfit, therefore he cannot be held responsible for slapping the black man. In both situations (forced or not forced to join the outfit), X could not have chosen otherwise unless X was ready to face the consequences. At this moment Chisholm points out that (i) and
Martin Luther King, Jr. was a very established man who influenced America to make leaps and bounds in regards to racial injustice. He was born on January fifteenth, 1929 in Atlanta, Georgia, and led a very normal, two parent childhood, his father being a preacher and his mother also being very involved with the church, along with his two siblings. Martin realized during his youth what a devastating toll inequality was taking on America. An example of this would be when a young Martin and his father went into a shoe store and they were told they will not do business with “colored folk” in the front of the store; this hurt Martin’s feelings greatly, but his very religious mother had always told him, "even though some people make you feel bad
In Aristotle’s Nicomachean Ethics, he outlines the different scenarios in which one is responsible for her actions. There is, however, a possible objection which raises the possibility that nobody is responsible for their actions. Are we responsible for some of our actions after all? If so, under what circumstances?
Yet, one must be causa sui to achieve true moral responsibility. Hence, nothing is able to truly be morally responsible. Strawson 's whole purpose of writing the article is to change anyone 's mind who says that we should be responsible for the way we are and what we do as a result of the way we are. He believes we are lacking freedom and control of doing so. He argues that if we do something for a reason, that is how we are, so we must be responsible.
Shirley Chisholm’s Presidential Bid From the beginning, the world was a place of inequality. However, it is possible to change. Through hard work from significant individuals, the world has fought wars and created laws that have led towards equality.
In David Barno’s , “A New Moral Compact,” he stresses about our countries current military situation, which is all-volunteer. Barno has also served time in the military himself as a lieutenant general. He claims that the countries current dependence on the all-volunteer military, allows us to rush into war without thinking about the consequences first. Barno proposes the idea, “that every use of military force over 60 days would automatically trigger an annual draft lottery to call up 10,000 men and women” (p.20).This solution is useful but it is not useful enough because it targets sympathy from the people while he needs to target the president because the president can initiate a war without consent of the people or Congress.
Equally people will say that that they should and shouldn 't be held accountable on this life or death situations. For instance… people have chosen this situation that they want to do and they know that they could be held accountable like for example in the story the life of pi, the boy was on a raft with the tiger and they were on each side of the boat but the boy was scared of getting eat by the tiger because the tiger had that look in his eyes of hunger so the boy decided to make a raft near the boat so he would still be alive. They should not be held accountable for this because it is there life and their choosing what they want to do to be free or take something off a bucket list. However... people can chose of what they want to do but they need to think before they do it to test if they are ready for it or that they won 't be scared and know the consequences of what might happen. Also how people even though they don 't know they should have checked first.
However, one cannot have control of everything all the time. Anyone who says otherwise either has a hand in your pocket
Ethics teaches us that we have a set of moral guidelines that enables us to from our conscience which then allows us to live a righteous life. One exemplary figure who was able to define what ethics is throughout his life, is Martin luther King. Martin Luther King Jr. was a minister, a civil rights activist, and a moral person. He fought for the rights of African Americans who were greatly prejudiced in America during the nineteen fifties and nineteen sixties. He fought to terminate segregation and to aid the African Americans who were subjected to bias within America.
“I believe the freedom to choose my course in life but I do not believe I am free to choose the consequences of my
