Chivalry’s New Look Since the days of King Arthur and the Knight’s of the Round Table, the world has made many great changes that have reshaped the ancient contours of chivalry. The rapid growth of technology and the progressing changes associated with gender roles have had a considerable impact on the format of courtesy that our ancestors have passed down generation to generation. Factors that once didn’t even exist have now become vital in the way we speak and act towards one another. In a fast-paced, high-tech world like ours today, what we need isn’t a brave knight who will joust in the honor of a woman. What we need is a new and improved model of chivalry that will better fit the needs of men and women while following the general guidelines of kindness and respect. In the era of Lancelot it might have required a grueling journey on horseback that may take months to deliver a single message to someone else, today it takes merely seconds. Back in the day, most women would be home tending to the kids and making sure the man had a nice, hot meal to come home to after a long day at work. Now, it’s very common to see these roles swapped, placing the women in the workforce, and the men at home with the kids. Women don’t need something as archaic as a man ordering her meal for her or him jousting in her honor.
