Personal Statement by Chloé Levi Joyce
I'm applying for the course because I believe that this is the next step for me in life and progressing with a career in media. It's a fantastic course with a syllabus that has me bursting with excitement. Manchester is one of the most talented cities in the world, and with MediaCityUk on our doorstep, where else is better to study in the world than at Salford University?
Television and Radio Broadcasting has interested me for a few years now, but this was not always the case. I studied performing arts at college level, with hopes of performing in a theatre one day. School council helped me gain a fair few connections in my local area. Such as joining our school and the local landscape architects on a project that gave our town a whole new recreational park.In my final year I was given the privileged of becoming Head Girl. One of my responsibilities was featuring on a 40 second radio advert for the school. I created a prom committee to create a fabulous end of year ball for all of my peers to enjoy. I was nominated to represent our school in Southports Anual Rotary Public speaking Competition, were I came 2nd place, speaking about LGBT rights and LGBT youth. This particular experience taught me the importance of researching a subject and making it suitable for a different audience than usual. It was quite a shock for a room full of vicars, and were the average age was 75, luckily it went down well. The biggest skill that having a leadership role taught me, was that teamwork is my biggest ally. Taking on such a huge responsibility and a number of projects, alongside sitting my GCSE's was a risk. Having a supportive team of students around me made it a dream come true. Learning basic script writing is something I'm incredibly excited in the course.
