“Chris, a man can’t be Jesus in this world!” This quote was declared by Joe Keller during an argument between him and his son, Chris, indicating that no one is perfect in the world. The deserving play, All My Sons, was written by Arthur Miller in 1947. Joe and Kate Keller are the parents of two men, Larry and Chris, and own a business building plane parts. When Larry went off to war, Keller was home working on his planes, and during that time he sent out failed planes with disabled parts attached. After finding the truth, Chris shamed his father because he thinks Joe killed Larry. These four characters are only a few from the play, and all of them are very different. One of the dominant themes in this play is deciding …show more content…

No one in this world share all of the same characteristics, opinions, or even preferences . The opinions of people differ from the society to their own household. The two main options floating around the world is whether one is an idealist or a realist. An idealist is someone who pursues or form thoughts in which the objects of knowledge are held to be in some way dependent on the activity of mind, usually unrealistic. A realist is one who accepts a situation as it is and is willing to prepare to deal with it accordingly. In the play, All My Sons, the theme is based on each character having their own mindset of being either an idealist or a realist. I think that I am an idealist. I imagine all the positive possible events that could occur, but obviously those don’t necessarily come true. I always hope for the best, but sometimes that doesn’t happen. The overall message of Arthur Miller is he encourages to show the difference between the different character mindsets. He wanted people to realize who they are and to share their opinions. His message was to state an individual's obligation to whether his opinions are based off of the people around him or by his own feelings. I personally think many people base their opinions off of society and feel if they say the wrong phrase, a judgement will take …show more content…

The society impacted Joe Keller’s life, especially after his big case. Joe and his partner, Steve Deever, shipped out false parts for airplanes before the war. The planes took down twenty-one pilots and he did not own up to it. Steve was sent to jail and Joe missed on going to jail. In contrast to Chris, Joe is a “live at the moment” man and he doesn’t care what is happening as long as his family is doing well. Also, he only cares about his family business because he wants his sons to take it over. Joe Keller is a realist because he doesn’t necessarily think Larry is coming home. He believes his time has passed. He thinks of how the world really is and doesn’t “sugar coat” the situation. Another character who is an example of a realist is Annie Deever. Annie knew from the beginning that Larry died in the act of war. Also, she lives in the moment of being in a relationship with Chris. I personally do not think her relationship with Chris would’ve lasted long. “..Like Larry’s brother. Do it like you, Chris,” said Annie (pg. 35). She said this after Larry kissed her for the first time. This showed that there was no connection between the two. Annie was a realist because she did not envision Larry coming back. She moved on from him and did not think of the miracle of him coming home. These two characters explained that there can be miracles in the world, but the imagination most likely won’t
