From the most influential people in our countries history, like John F. Kennedy and Abraham Lincoln, to the brave firefighters that risk their lives to save others, America has heroes that go without any recognition for their heroic acts. The adversity that all of these people face to achieve something that is extraordinary seems to be surreal. A hero that fits in the category of unrecognized and extraordinary is Chris Kyle. During his time as a cowboy, he suffered a horrible broken arm in an accident, which would play a key role later on in his life. After spending two years at Tarleton University, Kyle decided to enlist in the military in 1999. When he decided to join the military, Chris Kyle had it set that he wanted to be a Navy SEAL; however, his injury from his rodeo days came to haunt him. He was denied access to be a SEAL initially because his injury required him to have metal pins in his arm. This denial didn’t stop him from achieving his dream of becoming a SEAL; he was later given his invitation to SEAL school, passed, and was assigned to SEAL Team 3. In his ten years of being in the Navy, he became the most lethal sniper in American history. In his ten years of service, Kyle was deployed to four different times. The first time being in 2003 to Iraq: the second time was in 2004 to Fallujah: the third time was to Ramada in 2006: and his last time was in 2008 to Baghdad. Chris was contacted by a desperate mom who had tried everything she could tohelp her son, Eddie Ray Routh, a Marine veteran suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, better known as PTSD. PTSD is very common in veterans. “PTSD is caused by a traumatic event that provokes fear,helplessness, or horror in response to a threat of an injury or death,” according to The New England Journal of Medicine. Chris reached out to help Eddie Ray Routh and took him along with Chris’ friend Chad Littlefieldto a shooting range he would take veterans that needed to get away. It was there on February 2, 2013 that Eddie shot and killed Chris and Chad. After killing them he stole Chris’ truck and drove to his sister’s home. He told her he had murdered two people “before they could kill me”. Chris and Chad were found by the police with multiple gun wombs. It was a tragic ending of the life of soldier that spent his life killing, to save fellow soldiers. Over 7,000 people came to pay tribute at the funeral service for Chris Kyle. It was held had one of his favorite places, the Cowboys stadium.
