Into the Wild Essay Most people go into the wilderness to go camping for a week or less than a week, then leave. Some stay for more than a week. Chris McCandless was in the wild for at least one hundred days. “ I’ve decided to live this life for some time to come. The freedom and the beauty of it is too good to pass up.”(pg.92)
I believe we have a choice in this world, on whether to be remembered or to be forgotten. Chris McCandless was definitely remembered. Many people argue that Chris was either psycho, selfish, or a naturalist. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion but I believe that Chris was an outcast. From when he was younger, until his death, everyone questioned his actions.
Born in A Different Life Life on the road is an idealistic way to escape from societal problems. There is no denying that it grants individuals satisfaction by allowing them to fulfill their goals, as well as providing immense freedom and control over one’s life; however, it is a fundamentally illogical path to take due to nature’s malevolence. In Into The Wild, Krakauer writes a biography about a young man named Chris McCandless, in which he illustrates the similarities between himself and McCandless’s overly ambitious journey to accomplish feats in the wilderness. Coinciding with their similarities, they also faced an oppressive father figure at home, which lead the both of them to believe that their journey will provide them an answer to their problems at home. McCandless planned to survive in Alaska by living off the land while Krakauer wanted to be the first one to climb the Devil’s Thumb.
The past experiences of the main character, Chris McCandless, had an extraordinary effect on his life and the gradual end he met in Fairbanks bus 142. Between Chris and his father, Walt, there was a lot of tension. Chris had always been livid towards his father for his actions that put a massive strain on the whole family. Ever since that tragic event occurred, Chris’s childhood was never the same. This event influenced his personality, similar to how his early exposure to the wild also impacted him.
Have you ever met someone that everyone seems to love? This is exactly how Chris McCandless seemed in Into the Wild. Chris seemed to have a very loveable personality even though he did nothing to deserve it. But McCandles was too focused on himself, so he never grew attached to others that were willing to help. I believe that MCandles was selfish, independent, and arrogant.
16. The thesis of the novel Into the Wild is Chris cutting off his ties to his ‘world’ as he had become disappointed with his place in society. This connects to the book Paper Towns, just like Chris, the main character Margo Spiegelman ran off into her own world, “she loved mysteries so much that she became one.” (Green, prologue 35) This quote relates to Chris McCandless and his own mysterious mind that no one will quite ever understand except himself.
Although some might argue that McCandless should have notified his parents that he was going to take this trip, however, if he would’ve told his family they would have gone out of their way to bring him back home. Furthermore Mccandless did tell his parents that he was going on this trip and didn’t find the need to tell them where he was going minute by minute. He was an adult and understood what the consequences were. Ever since Mccandless was a kid he was isolated, he felt that he didn’t belong in the world he lived in.
Krakauer uses a constant tone throughout this novel and the wild. Krakauer tends to show empathy towards McCandless two to the similar life experiences and desires they have been through. both McCandless and Kraków I have difficulty with Mel authority figures, especially their fathers. “Like McCandless, figures of male authority aroused in me a confusing medley of corked fury and hunger” (Krakauer, 134). this quote shows that empathetic bond that cacao I had created with McCandless.
Christopher McCandless, the protagonist of the novel and film Into The Wild by Jon Krakauer, is not your average guy. Driven by his minimalist ideals and hate for society, he challenged the status quo and embarked on a journey that eventually lead to his unforeseen demise. A tragic hero, defined by esteemed writer, Arthur Miller, is a literary character who makes an error of judgment or has a fatal flaw that, combined with fate and external forces, brings on tragedy. Christopher McCandless fulfills the role of Miller’s tragic hero due to the fact that his tragic flaw of minimalism and aversion towards society had lead him to his death.
Chris McCandless from the book “Into the Wild” by Jon Krakauer is a character who is extremely well liked by all. His smarts give him the ability to hold conversations with a variety of different people. Chris does not use his knowledge in a negative way that causes people to think that he is arrogant, it just comes out of him naturally, leaving many people impressed by the young boy. Through his character, I learned how much intelligence can truly add to one's personality. Chris is subconsciously phenomenal at speaking with new people due to his wide range of knowledge.
Into The Wild portrays a man who went on a fatal unforgettable journey through the alaska wilderness. Chris McCandless was a man with great courage and the ability to live on his own made him more of a hero going on his fatal journey. Many would say he was foolish or not thinking right, but that is not the case. The case here is simply a man with courage wanting to fulfill is beliefs through his journey. One may ask what is courage.
He was nowhere to be seen. I felt sweat pouring down my face, as I frantically ran around the house to find Robbie. All of a sudden I hear the floorboards above me start creaking and groaning. I thought to myself, is that the murderer! I tiptoed my way to the stairs, and then I walked quietly to the top of the stairs.
A wild style of living appears to be a bit different to others whom might find it more peculiar than normal. The fact that Chris McCandless had departed from an average lifestyle, affected how his parents felt about him. They became more anxious and worried about Chris missing and isolating himself. A son’s presence can appear to be very important to Billie and Walt, two very loving parents who care very much about their son Chris. Chris had set out to an adventure up to Alaska to discover the wild.
This book enlightens the audience on reverting to a lifestyle much like our ancestors to alter our state of health. My thoughts about health and lifestyle have a positive meaning after reading the book. Our bodies are intricate systems that work as a balance and if something is wrong the whole system crashes and results in disease. Sleep is imperative to a healthy lifestyle affecting heart, weight, and mind. When we lack sleep, our cognition decreases causing error in judgement.
The first reason that I believe drove McCandless into the wild was the emotional damage from his parents.
