McCandless’s tragic fate
Chris McCandless the main character in the movie “Into The Wild” was a nonconformist who decided to graduate college and then disappeared into the wilderness where the majority of the story takes place. Throughout his travels McCandless faces many obstacles and meets different types of people who evidently help him on his journey in which none of them understand what McCandless is searching for.McCandless spent years of his life just living off mother nature, his goal was to travel to Alaska. Alaska is considered one of the last frontiers of our planet. A state that is largely unpopulated by man. McCandless managed to survive in the Alaskan wilderness for 113 days. At one point he decided he wanted to turn back and retire from his Alaskan adventure, but it was too late, a small stream became a massive river over the summer and he could not traverse it any longer. In his final moments staring in the face of starvation and death McCandless helplessly curses at the world. He was not ready to die. McCandless did not find what he was looking for before he died. There were only short periods in time where McCandless was truly on his own. His journey into Alaska would prove the longest period in time where he was on his own, but that would prove fatal to him. McCandless thought he wanted to escape society, even those whom he came to call “friend”. In the end, it was them who could have saved him from his doom and it is apparent when McCandless sees his entire life flash before he finally succumbs to death. McCandless most likely never sought out to be alone forever, but rather to find the answer to his questions along his journey. He never did find what he was looking for, but close to death, he sees that what he really wanted might have been what he left behind all those years
