Pittacus Lore once said, “The price of a memory, is the memory of the sorrow it brings.” In the realistic fiction book Whale Talk, by Chris Crutcher, The main character’s name is TJ, and TJ’s father said, “a good day is one in which you avoid remembering the events of July 27, 1968” (Crutcher 56). What happened that day was that an eighteen month old boy was wandering and was lost. What resulted from this was that he ended up outside and got stuck in between two of the tires of TJ’s father’s pickup truck. TJ’s dad didn’t check the truck, and started driving without noticing what he did.
The Book I chose to explore was I Survived: The San Francisco Earthquake, 1906. Author and illustrated by Lauren Tarshis. I chose this book because I enjoyed the previous "I survived" novel that I read. This book is a Non-Fiction book because the events that occur in this book actually happened. Leo was an actual kid who experienced so much disaster that no one should have to go through.
Into the Wild is a story about a passionate, very gifted athlete, and scholar named Chris Mccandless. Chris is a graduate from Emory. Chris grew up in a wealthy suburban town in Virginia. After graduation highschool Chris donates $25,000 of his savings to charity, and gets in his car and drives away without telling anyone. Chris fought for what he believed in and did not let anyone tell him how to do things.
Chris McCandless ' naivete is exemplified in killing the moose, as he tries to survive in Alaska. He aims to make use of every part of the animal he hunted, therefore attempting to preserve all of it before it rots, however he finds himself and the carcass to become swarmed in mosquitos, flies-- and before he knows it-- maggots, once he tries to gut the animal, which forces him to discard most of the corpse, leaving it to the wolves. The quote “But McCandless, in his naivete, relied on the advice of hunters he 'd consulted in South Dakota, who advised him to smoke his meat, not an easy task under the circumstances.” (Krakauer 166) displays his inexperience. The hunters of South Dakota know only of curing meat in their climate, whereas
chris was a courageous person also a brave person who had so many reason he was this way read more to find out.throughout his journey he face so many people help him out through his journey like on page 16 when wayne westerberg come and pick up chris and transport him to where had to go which was saco hot springs 240 to the east on U.S highway 2. Chris always describes the person he is with ,Chris was not afraid to talk to this stranger with knowledge of his family. The book I have chosen to read is called “The Operator: Firing the shots that Killed Osama Bin Laden and My Years as a Seal Team Warrior” by Robert O’neill. This book is about Robert O’neill sixteen and a half years in the Navy, and his 400 combat mission. It also talks about his experience being the man who shot Osama. I choose this book because, i've always had an interest reading about 9/11 and this story talks about that. Plus, about the world's most wanted man.
Into The Wild Report There are a lot of reasons people just decide to go off into the Alaskan wilderness. One reason could be to get away from their past life which is what i believe Chris Mccandless (Alexander Supertramp) chose. He did this in order to have a fresh new start in the Alaskan wilderness. Why did chris chose to leave his family,friends and the great institution of Emory university to just become a vagabond in the streets? The reason i believe Chris went into the alaskan wilderness was to find a new identity due to the troubles he had at home with his father and mother Chris and his sister Carine were abuse and manipulated as children in one quote Carine told her mother about her father's beatings and all her mother did was call her a liar and usually blamed the abuse on Chris and Carien.
Chris McCandless made a lot of friends during his Alaskan Odyssey. Wayne Westerberg was one of the people who got really attached to Chris or as they all knew him, Alex. Westerberg had always job offers for McCandless; it was his own way of keeping an eye out for him. McCandless and Westerberg became close friends in a matter of days. Wayne always respecting his mysterious side with no questions really helped their friendship.
The book I chose to read was “The Glass Castle” by Jeanette Walls. “The Glass Castle” was memorable because it gave me an idea about the diversity of each person. The story was told through the perspective of a young girl who does not understand right from wrong because she believes what her father tells her. I think this book is popular because it expressed ideas that are typically thought of as wrong or ideas that many turn away from. The author included outstanding imagery that puts the reader into the shoes of the main character.
I would have to say that one of many books that has helped to form my understanding of my faith is actually the book called Daisy Head Mayzie by Dr. Seuss. This story is about a girl who at the very beginning of the story is just like everyone else though rather quickly it becomes apparent, when she sprouts a daisy on her head, that she is rather different from everyone else. Over the course of the book she faces teasing and fame along with the desire to be normal and hating all of the attention. When I look back and try to imagine what I was thinking while reading this book it is initially hard because I was five years old when the book came out.
The Grinch Who Stole Christmas The Grinch who stole Christmas is one of my favorite Dr. Seuss books and one of my favorite Christmas movies. I found 3 things similar to one another in the book and the movie which had the Grinch who hated Christmas, the Who’s who loved Christmas, and the Grinch stole all of the presents and food. One identical thing I found in the movie and book was that the Grinch hated Christmas. If they didn’t put the Grinch’s hate for Christmas in both the book and, he would have no reason to steal Christmas and it wouldn’t have been a very good movie.
So with this information in mind , these are some of the books that have influenced my character and therefore my literature journey . My favorite memories either include an animal a friend or me upside down in my bed ( my favorite reading spot ) with a good book . Reading was always a safe place away from boredom and annoying siblings . One of the books I remember the most was a broad purple heavy book called ‘ Bible Stories for Kids’ I remember how at first I only read it because it was the only book in my little “library” that I had not read ; A story that stands out among others is the story of Jesus walking on water ; I can distinctly remember the first time I read this story , I was in an airplane on my way to Reynosa , Tamaulipas to visit my family.
During summer while other kids were outside having fun, i was indoors with my AC on reading different kind of books because of a soccer injury i had. If it wasn 't for that injury i don 't think i would of ever gotten a book on my own. It all started with an injury to a book that became the book that kept me going to find more books to read. The book is called " A Child Called It: One Child 's Courage to Survive" by David Pelzer. Before this i thought all books were boring but this one totally changed my mind.
I would one day like to show how these experiences will influence my teaching strategies. The first book I have ever read was a Dr. Seuss storybook in kindergarten. kindergarten teacher called Green Eggs and Ham. My experience with reading this book was good because I
Today the books that always manage to get my attention are usually the books based on true events. My earliest memory of being read to isn’t necessarily being read to by my parents but being read to by teachers. Both my parents were always working, so they never had time to read to me. I didn’t have any older siblings to help me so when I started school, it was the first time I was exposed to reading.
