Two novels come to mind when Christ-like characters come up in conversation, To Kill a Mocking Bird, by Harper Lee, and The Chosen, by Chaim Potok. Many characters in these books show their commitment to their faith, and how they live it out in their everyday lives. The jewish characters of The Chosen, find themselves in the World War Two era, struggling to keep their faith in the modern world. To Kill a Mockingbird however, is a story of a small town that must deal with a legal case which rips the town in two. These stories, while different, find a common ground in the case of Christ-like characters being weaved throughout them. Christ-centeredness is shown in these intriguing novels through a young Jewish man named Danny, a thoughtful attorney by the name of Atticus, and a wise Jewish man, David Malter. …show more content…
His father desires for him to take his place as the head of the synagogue, Mr. Saunders ensured Danny studied, and he raised him differently then many. Danny, however, felt like he had no choice in the matter, he did not want to take his father’s place. He faced inner turmoil, especially since his father believed tradition to be the backbone of their religion, and Danny felt drawn to a more modern look on Judaism. Through all this, Danny remained set on God. Danny treated those around him with respect and love. Even when his father’s ideals contradicted with what Danny felt, he defended him, called him great man. Danny Saunders remained committed to God, and took modern ideas, combining them without wavering in his
